Kirsty Findlay and Chris Gould are This Divide, an acoustic duo with a new EP full of atmosphere, smooth guitar and ambient vocals. Almost unnoticeable at first, the light background clicks and off-beat drums add an addictive quality to the title track on this EP, filling the sound out and complimenting Kirsty Findlay’s vocals perfectly. The song contains a resonant guitar solo that fits seamlessly into the sound this pair have created.
The EP begins with ‘Long Time Comin’, a smooth jazz-sounding song filled with bells, airy electric guitar and light snare taps that create an ambient track with depth, made even better with Kirsty Findlay’s velvety and mellow vocals.
‘Play Your Game’ is addictive from the get go. Slightly more up tempo and filled out with background bongos, flawless vocals and lyrics with attitude, this song is possibly the best on the EP closely followed by ‘Sacrifice’, with a chorus melody that sticks in your head for days. The atmospheric piano sounds on this track are both moody and mesmerising, with a haunting ability to make you skip back to the first song. It’s rare to find a collection of acoustic tracks that don’t make us lose interest somewhere in the middle, but there is not one poor song on this EP. Instead, an overflowing amount of talented songwriting, vocals and musicianship.
