Tonight’s gig is full of choppy riffs and an air of menace most bands would kill for. The best way to describe this bunch of musical miscreants is yobs with soul. These guys have real range and depth to their sound. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than with ‘Destination Venus’. Guitars get bent out of shape, while drummer Angel Paterson, batters things along at a fearsome pace. The band has commanded a capacity crowd tonight. Old punks pogo along, while young upstarts get an idea of what all the initial fuss was about. Looking like the Lulu of the punk scene, Fay Fife gets call-and-response vocals going from the audience on every song, whipping up all present into a frenzy, particularly on a rawk cover version of the Human League’s ‘Don’t You Want Me?’. Along with a revved-up version 2 of ‘Destination Venus’, this song finishes things off perfectly. A perfect end, then, to a great night out.
