What is it about Wolverhampton? Long the butt of jokes, the Midlands city seems to have acquired an intrinsic comedy value. Mention the place to virtually anyone in Britain and you’ll be greeted by a toe-curling impersonation of Slade. The Lines are fighting against this comedic oppression – already the hottest ticket in their hometown of Wolvey, the band look set to take their brand of epic rock to the nation. At a time when the musical world seems concerned with skinny guitars, it refreshing to hear a great big filthy riff pouring out of your speakers. References include The Verve and Radiohead, with nary a Gang of Four record in sight. The Lines have definite talent, but it remains to be seen if they can outrun the comic reputation of their city.
