This is one of two new tracks recorded to boost the Filthy Tongues “best of” release.
It is quite sparse, tied down, at least at first, with Martin Metcalfe’s vocals quite low in the mix and low-key. The tapping drum and rattling percussion combine with the usual insistent bass line, clanging guitar and swirling keyboards to create a sound that is quite post-punk but also very fresh.
The fact is that TFT know how to do this better than most… The narrative is doomy, post-apocalyptic even, with hints of horror movies and existential angst – “we rejected the above in an underground city” – “what you gonna do when the floods come” – reliably dark, portenteous and always producing great music.
