When Art Brut’s Eddie Argos declared “my little brother’s just discovered rock ‘n’ roll” everyone knew how he felt. Realising your sibling is no longer the snot-nosed brat who hangs out on street corners slurping bottles of buckie ranks proudly up there with the first-time negotiation of a bra-clip. But, unlike the unrivalled joys of that triumphant teenage fumble, having a newly acquainted rock n roller in the family is not as pleasurable as it seems. Because, ultimately, some day your newly-hip kid bro’ will bring home a track like The Films’ Belt Loop and taunt you with its fizzing guitar-pop riffs and derivative lyrics, much like he would an OAP. Chirpy and up-tempo, this sprightly Cribs-esque stomp has ‘Target-Market’ ingrained within its neanderthalic chant-a-long chorus. If this is the new generation’s concept of rock ‘n’ roll, either they’ve got it all wrong or I’m much too old.
