There’s a very endearing, laid-back quality here. That’s part of its charm. There are no lengthy solos, or ponderous lyrics on the meaning of the universe. Everything is short, sweet, and simple. Tales of teen romance, etc, are relayed in an innocent but never affected fashion. While they could do with a little more variety in their sound, you really feel for them. This is mainly due to the singer’s sweetness of voice. If he’s as young as he sounds, then the tales he relates here are probably not that far behind him. The hurt certainly still sounds real enough. Probably also because he wrote all the songs on the album.
