English troubadour Fretwell has quietly built up a cult fanbase, ignoring the fashion based hype of the Penate, Nash school. This earnest, piano-led ballad avoids the cliché of building to a dramatic conclusion, tailing off just when you feel the arena filling chorus is about to kick in. Intelligent song writing that avoids falling into trends, Fretwell looks set to produce something major. It’s always a joy to watch an artist blossom, and “Now” has set the bar even higher for Fretwell. It remains to be seen where he will go after this, but we should be thankful for where the singer is “Now”.
