Not since the riots of the Happy Mondays’ ecstasy-fuelled heyday has a record sounded so full of such joyous, intense gusto. Its beat is its strength – it batters you into hedonist mode, making you forget the 9 to 5 drudgery. These people have obviously heard about acid house in history lessons and are trying, in their own warped way, to reinvent it. There’s an iron-willed confidence here, normally only found in bands with several album under their belts. Blazing 70’s style rock riffs collide head-on with blissful beats and we, the listener, are caught between them. This has that rare effect of making you want to shake the room with air guitar and simultaneously dance your little heart out. A thorny, razor-sharp electro treat.
