February is turning into the hottest month of the year for the Scenior Citizens and Elder Emos among us. With shows from Bowling For Soup, Less Than Jake, Thrice, and The Blackout already out in the wild – a mammoth show gets dropped into our laps from nowhere.
Canadian Pop Punk royalty Simple Plan have just announced European tour plans and they’re bringing heavyweights State Champs and Mayday Parade with them. Co-headliner tours are not a new concept when it’s two bands… I still have a special place in my heart for the Mayday Parade/The Wonder Years show back in 2019 and Less Than Jake always seem to be able to bring their hot pal with them. But this is a triple-decker sandwich that anyone who had poorly-dyed hair in the ’00s would want to be the filling of.
This is absolutely Simple Plan’s tour… but either one of these acts could be top billed. Both State Champs and Mayday Parade were over in 2022 filling SWG3 on their own. The only downside to these three bands hitting the stage in one night is that we can’t open the venue at noon and give them the time they deserve. Simple Plan have also said they’re going to be donating $1 from every ticket (which might as well be £1 in this economy) to The Simple Plan Foundation who help kids find direction in life through music.
The night won’t just be a nostalgic trip back to simpler pop punk times. Simple Plan have promised tracked from their newest album ‘Harder Than It Looks’, while Mayday Parade have recently dropped single ‘Got Me All Wrong’. This tour is proof that emo isn’t dead.
