So, the first track from Simian Mobile Disco’s new album, Temporary Pleasure. Well, it’s a bit of a disappointment. While debut album Attack Decay Sustain Release wasn’t the masterpiece we had all hoped for, it did spawn ‘Hustler’, a song that did make it big in clubs – even if you don’t know who its by, you’ve definitely heard it.
True, ‘Cruel Intentions’ might sound good played really loud in a club, or even, maybe, your bedroom, but on the radio this song has no impact at all. There is a simple electro beat and Beth Ditto singing, and that’s about it. Why Beth Ditto you ask? Good question; anyone could have sung this.
It just comes as a big disappointment when you know that member James Ford has produced ground-breaking acts like Peaches and Klaxons. Always the producers, never the pop star, as the old saying goes, and sadly this single is instantly forgettable.
