The roster of Warp Records has always been eclectic to say the least, and Flying Lotus contains this tradition. The LA beat specialist produces dark electro funk while aiming to expand across multiple sub-genres. This, he does very successfully from the soulful ‘Tea Leaf’ to hip-hop instrumental (‘Vegas Collide’), trippy techno (‘Dance Floor Stalker’) and the dub heavy ‘Bonus Beat’. Like with any artist with no real agenda, some of it works brilliantly where other moments like ‘Vegas Collide’ fail to really take off. It is an interesting listen and if Flying Lotus refines his sound overtime he could achieve greatness.
