This modestly titled LP surprises in more ways than one. When initially gazing on this bright album, the first thing that came to mind was that the title lacked imagination, but after listening to it on a number of occasions, the impression seems to be the artist would rather play it safe with a modest title, than have something he could be ridiculed for.
That’s the general theme in the album. Nothing outrageous but to be fair nothing is poor either. Music is portrayed in some of its simpler and best forms here, and with some well thought out harmonies and classic guitar picking, you’ll happily feel the stress monitor ease in your daily routine as you listen intently to some very proficient vocals and catchy harmonies.
The stand out tracks on this sunny album are ‘Abuelo’, ‘Ripples Into Waves’ and ‘Before You Left’. McGrath has performed the majority of the music on the album with a well accomplished use and knowledge of almost all the instruments, and the lyrics mainly seem to stem from personal tribulations and peace in his personal and family life.
Although this album shows highly significant ability and hails both Spanish and Irish musical influences, it may help to have a straight talking producer brought in on the next showing to get the best out of the artist, and have that distinct comparative mindset to get Eric a little more aggressive, and get the best out of him. This is the only stumbling block perhaps to becoming the new prince of what I can only term sunshine indie.
