Around halfway into their UK Discover tbour, Elliot Minor hit Glasgow alongside powerpop act The Hot Melts. The Scouse support act warm up the anxious crowd of youngsters with their new hit ‘(I Wish I Had) Never Been In Love’, alongside the crowd-pleasing ‘Big Baby’ and ‘Fun’.
In their fifth Glasgow gig in eighteen months, Oxford rockers Elliot Minor play their biggest gig so far in the city’s ABC having previously rocked Cathouse, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and The Garage. Having sold out all previous Glasgow shows some may have felt slight disappointment at the sight of a half-full ABC, however the 1,200 capacity is a long way from the smaller surroundings of the Garage or the Cathouse.
The band open their set with lines from The Broken Minor over strong dance beats, with complete darkness being split by green spotlights. Playing favourites such as ‘Time After Time, ‘The White One Is Evil’ and breakthrough single ‘Parallel Worlds’ to the energetic teen audience, the band manage to add a new dimension to the set. Eliot Minor satisfy their ‘veteran’ fans with non-album tracks such as ‘Jacky Jules’ and ‘She Gets Around’. Adding newer material to their set such as new single ‘Discover (Why The Love Hurts)’ aswell as their more difficult acoustic numbers ‘Silently’ and ‘The Broken Minor’, the band showcases their classically trained voices, with drummer Dan Hetherington adding to the already powerful harmonies of Alex Davies and Ed Minton.
The band return to the stage for a thrilling encore comprising of hard-rocking ‘Still Figuring Out’ and their highest charting number ‘Jessica’, which sends the crowd home happy and anxious for the impending new material.
