The alter-ego of Glasgow-based multi-instrumentalist Brett McCann, the oddly-named Community Swimming Pool’s debut is the result of four years of music-making.
Happily, it’s well worth the wait. Described as “dreampop” by its creator, it is indeed a hazy woozy tune in the vein of Lush or Ride, all chiming guitars and buried vocals.
“What can we do to stop the bad news?” asks McCann in a lyric which touches on the BLM protests and his feeling “utterly helpless” in the world today. Well, sometimes you can’t do any more, but this tune should help ease the pain of modern living a little.
