What with Family Guys recent use of ‘Surfin’ Bird’ as a plot device perhaps the world is awaiting a revival of Surf Guitar and if there is, Agaskodo Teliverek are perfectly placed with their ‘Psycho Goulash’ album. To be fair, the band name and album title are likely to put off the majority of people before a note is even played and then the overly quirkiness is likely to kill off a few more bystanders. Those that hang around a bit longer will be rewarded by an album that wears its heart on its sleeve but will probably grate after a while. Or shorter.
Put together by a London based four piece, the busy and bustling tracks serve as a backdrop to the caterwauling and unique improvised vocals of Hiroe Takei. Theres always a lot going and if your mind wanders at any point you are likely to end up with a headache as the tracks jump from shouting to signing to whistling to chaotic guitar squalor in the space of time it takes some bands to switch from A to E.
Musically, its all over the place and some would call it a mess but its definitely got a bit of charm to its seemingly random elements that have been thrown together.
