If ever an album title summed up its contents… well, that’s not strictly true.
The dozen tunes from the Scots-Burmese artist are decidedly ‘alien’ in nature – unsettling electronica with Soe Paing’s rich vocal layered on top.
While much of the album is deliberately evocative and at times downright sinister, that’s not to say she makes noise for the sake of it. On the contrary, this is a collection of songs, albeit driven by sparse, pulsating synths.
There’s a line that can be traced to the likes of Portishead and even Peter Gabriel thanks to the organic and (understandably) oriental feel.
Overall, a compelling and at-times mesmerising collection – but whether it’ll get the kids off to sleep is another matter…
