The new Xan Tyler single, out any time now, sounds great. Vocally an interweaving blend of two wonderful voices (Xan herself and guest Emma Pollock) with a great instrumental backing provided by Xan’s acoustic strum, Louis Abbott on drums, Adam Scott on bass and producer Boo Hewerdine on organ, it also contains a rippingly good John Rooney guitar solo.
The whole thing sounds a bit summery, a bit West Coast (of Scotland obviously!) – a timeless melody with a gorgeous middle-eight progression present and correct. Is it a feminist anthem or a celebration of friendship – does it matter when it sounds this good, nope!
The track is the first release from Fife-based Xan’s next album ‘Holding Up Half the Sky’. Xan’s an artist with an interesting pedigree and some incredible previous collaborators, BM is much looking forward to this record if this first track is anything to go by, and there is at least one live date in the diary already – check it out folks!
