Touring on the back of their latest album release, ‘Barbara’, We Are Scientists are welcomed by a chanting, stomping, sold out crowd at Glasgow’s O2 ABC. It’s apparent that enthusiasm is cranked high.
WAS thunder through their first couple of tracks displaying a tight, accomplished, and energetic onstage performance. It’s becomes apparent early on that the fast paced, riffy tracks are well suited to live shows. There are enough hooks in WAS’ material, both old and new, to catch crowdsufers and reel them rhythmically towards to the stage.
The well known on-stage banter between Chris Cairns and Keith Murray does not disappoint either. In fact, you would be forgiven for looking forward to the breaks between songs as much as the songs themselves. It’s friendly, genuinely funny chat. Although Cairns did have a slightly worried “Have I crossed the line?” look on his face on receiving boos after dismissing Buckfast and proclaiming that Fanta and grain alcohol is the only staple beverage of the rock musician. He wins them back, however, by introducing the next song as one they wrote while under the influence of the tonic wine.
Murray and Cairns continued to entertain throughout the breaks and the band as a whole delivered a solid, thrilling set. WAS create a unique atmosphere of intensity without seriousness that leaves a smile on your face.
