This is a self-released album – I’d thought it was on Gargleblast and that’d have been more of a clue to its origins. It’s recorded at that studio and the whole of the opener has a kind of Lanarkshire feel – towering, spatial and a bit epic, like The Unwinding Hours or Mogwai (who to be fair probably recorded down the road at the Chemikal studios, but anyway).
‘Organic Paranoia’ is all robotic drumming, but there is, as the title suggests, a feel of human intervention. Guitars trace a path for the synths to follow as they strike out over the landscape in side your heard. There’s a hint of Savage Republic / Scenic rather than more traditional synth based stuff like Tangerine Dream.
‘Skye Falling’ actually comes ac a surprise. It’s got guitars, and singing. Indeed, it’s kind of a ballad. And kind of disappointing as more of the same would have done quite nicely, but 20 seconds in a big rush of scary guitars arrives and we have the best of both worlds. However, ‘Murder’ as its title suggests, is longer, darker and epic-er. As is ‘Null Interface’, perhaps typical Lanarkshire post-rock in a way but always listenable while closer ‘Violence is Forever’ drums up a storm before subduing itself in waves of calm alternating with full-on rock-out.
