‘Iron Mask,’ apparently a hymn to agoraphobia, is the debut single from London five piece theDominoState. From somewhat subdued, downbeat beginnings initially led by a dour harmonica lick, it soon builds to an atmospheric wall of sound chorus comprising layers of echoing guitar and vocal harmony. There are definite hints of the Edge’s influence throughout the song, which mixes up 80s-era U2 with more modern sounding acts like Interpol. As debut singles go, it’s a decent effort and worthy of investigation if you appreciate the big sound of stadium torchsongs.
