In a pile of review CD’s made up mostly of reissues and ‘Second Comings’ of previously ‘famous’ musicians, it’s nice to find something that is a debut release. The Winston Giles Orchestra’s 2004 ‘Soundtracks for Sunrise’ finally gets a belated UK issuing in October, though why it’s taken this long to be released over here is a mystery, especially considering a follow-up was released in 2005. This has no bearing on the music of course, which is a chill-out version of the Flaming Lips blissed out reverie mixed with some offcuts from the last Lemon Jelly album. Toss a bit of Royksopp on top and you’ve got yourself ‘Soundtracks to Sunrise’. It’s all very pleasant but little of it sticks in your memory. Perhaps their two year old follow up (due in the UK around 2010 I should Imagine) will show a little more life…..
