Mancunian four-piece The Whip were described by Lily Allen as “more gratitude than attitude” after a recent appearance on her BBC Three show. Which is all very nice, but their hybrid, electro pop slash dance slash indie rock sound is rather… dirty sounding. ‘Trash’ is a pounding, sleazy mantra of a song, with insistent lyrics “I wanna be trash” resounding over a throbbing monster of a beat. Debut album X Marks Destination is sure to be gracing the decks of many an indie club night across the nation.
