In their own words, this Leicestershire trio’s 15th (count ‘em) album is a “bluesy, boozy love letter to the guitar”.
And yes, moving on from the charming indie whimsy of its predecessor A Season in Hull, Bamboo Diner delivers a slew of songs pondering on the more mundane aspects of life (“They’re tearing down the Pool Hall, they’re turning it into flats,”), but always with a joyous delivery and a singalong hook.
‘The Running Man’, for example, would sit nicely in Howlin’ Wolf’s back catalogue. And if that appeals, then delve into their own past – Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon and Long Black Cars fit the blues-print, but wherever you look, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
