Stroksian guitar flurries, Leeds accent, terrace chanting chorus (no, this isn’t the latest killer Cribs single). The Pigeon Detectives have always divided opinion, but ‘Take Her Out’ breezes in and out like a rowdy Kooks jaunt-along, before you realise that after three pints of Stella it could sound like one of the catchiest songs around this week. Probably as forgettable as an episode of Big Bro, but oddly enjoyable nonetheless, ‘Take Her Back’ tackles the age-gap conundrum, “he’s 17/she’s 22” they yelp, harbouring the kind of social conundrum usually reserved for Jeremy Kyle. Then suddenly breaks out in a flurry of idle trumpet parps, just to prove it’s not all skol n sawdust round these here parts.
