Hailing from London, The Broadcasts have already received some airplay on XFM and 6Music. It’s not hard to see why either, they produce a pleasing brand of perky indie-rock comparable to early Futureheads.
‘Shortcuts’ is a very well written song indeed. It’s a perky slab of youthful enthusiasm and “Wo-oa-oah” vocals. The guitar melodies are spritely and are well suited to the likes of 6Music. It’s a very impressive a-side for a debut single and with enough exposure will no doubt turn out to be a great sing-a-long at live gigs.
‘Tightropes’ is a Cure-esque mix of melancholy guitar and vocal harmonies that shows off that they are able to do a lot more than just perky guitar based indie-pop (we’re looking at you, Pigeon Detectives) and although ‘Sharp Knife’ doesn’t quite cut the mustard by veering worryingly close to LostProphets territory at points, it’s not enough to take away from the fact that as long as there’s some edge behind the bluster, The Broadcasts are a very promising prospect indeed.
