Why do I always get sent shit like this to review?
Sigh. If you like your rock and roll to be drawling, Stetson-clad, aviator-wearing, Mustang-riding, ol’ red-eye-drinking, Dukes of fucking Hazzard (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?) then you’re going to love ‘Shake & Shout’ as much as I hated it.
It’s basically an album of hillbilly hoedowns, but the clever twist is that it features ever so witty redneck versions of Nelly’s ‘Hot in Herre’, Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya!’ and Burt Bacharach/Hal David’s ‘I say a little prayer’ (sorry I can’t remember who the dame was who sung that).
There’s even a track simply called ‘Yee Haw’, which beautifully and succinctly summarises the themes and issues that this particular composition tackles.
As far as joke bands go, this joke has been done before and it wasn’t really that funny any of the hundred times before.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go cleanse my ears by listening to Rednex’s ‘Cotton Eye Joe’.
