What a belter!
Betty is a bit behind with Dundee’s best-kept secret, have heard mention of them for years but a lack of activity (and Glasgow live appearances) kept them under the radar until now.
This October 2016 track is part of the ‘Stoor’ by Stoor album (Album of the Year for 2015 – Ed), described in their press release as being one of the more restrained tracks… It sounds like a collision of Eddie Argos-esque yelping (in a good way), early Franz and something from the 80s like The Fire Engines, with heavy overtones of the 2014 breakout hit ‘Katherine’ by (crap name but there are precious few geetar bands out there in the late 2000-teens who have had an actual hit) Catfish and the Bottlemen – and is altogether a good thing.
Fellow inhabitant of the interweb Manic Pop Thrills has been on a bit of a mission to get this lot a bit more recognition, or something, so BM is adding her not inconsiderable, at this time of year, weight (how very dare you, after the festive season as well) to the campaign to “get Stoor elected”, as it were.
This single is a thing of wonder, from men who probably should know better, but there ye go. Mentions of “contagion” and the cry “everything will take/run its course” are a pure delight, with chiming guitar lines, revving backline and an uncontrollable melody. Please, guys, make an early 2017 wish come true and play a Glasgow show – also fair play to Stereogram for taking a punt on these irregular punters!
