If Dawson’s Creek was still going strong you could easily picture Dawson and Joey out on the deck with the sweet strummings of ‘Philip Larkin Said’ playing while teenagers everywhere try to figure out who sings it. A summery offering from the band, singer Kat King’s delicate voice and the jaunty guitars flow nicely although the song’s lyrics do become a little repetitive. ‘Keswick’ is another acoustic number with more assertive vocals and the reflective What Would Morrissey Say?’ has more than a hint of Blondie to it. An altogether deeper, 80s sound with heavy guitars and the base prominent throughout Kat’s voice seems too dainty for the darker track. A decent debut although the band should perhaps stick to the acoustics or alternate vocals if they mean to pursue the darker side of their music. (Available via www.myspace.com/spymovieuk)
