Jodi, aka Silvi has released a number of tracks in the last couple of years and this is the latest. Released at the start of April, it has fairly lit up social media in BM’s part of the interweb, and deservedly so.
A slow-burn start of piano arpeggios brings in Silvi’s voice, murmuring the verse before the electronica kicks in and the voice, now in a far higher register, swoops in and out of the treated bass and piano. There is high drama in here, musically and vocally, and some amount of emotion on display.
There is a further delight in a kind of middle-eight/coda/not-quite-sure-what but it changes the direction of the track until the whole thing ends in a blaze of glory, before a final murmur, and we are back to the start.
This is some form of post-Covid, post-everything torch song – hypnotic, brave and hugely impressive. It isn’t quite like any of her previous tracks. It could hopefully be one stepping stone to a major breakthrough for this incredibly talented singer-songwriter.
