There’s always one, isn’t there? In this case, someone who managed to achieve so much that your own achievements look meagre and unsubstantial by comparison. Motherwell’s Shona Brown took up the flute at the age of 12, and within a few months, played on Mogwai’s seminal Young Team debut album. Having worked in jazz and classical worlds as well, she now releases this five track EP. Featuring both her work as a flautist, it’s a pastoral work of beauty. Perhaps more in a folk idiom than any other (if we’re going to use labels), it demonstrates her talents as a singer, writer and flautist.
