The artist’s name, the EP title and by God the music all bear the trademark of the swinging 60s, just as the psychedelic-era clashed with the dark comedowns and heavier drugs. ‘Men Of Leisure’ is a throwback to they times but it’s done so well and let’s be honest, it’s not as if it sounds out of place today either.
‘Monsters’ would sit comfortably with any of Electrelane’s back catalogue and ‘Volksgarten’ could easily be churned out by Bricolage, such is the reliance on the riffing bassline. The lead vocals may not be as icy cold as Nico but there is a charming air to them and while Severine Deveraux may not be the most original gem of the year, it’s hard to resist a little shimmy to their sound.
