Satellite Underground’s ‘Sea of People’ starts with an intro that almost blindsides you into expecting a post-punk anthem with prominent phased Edge-like lead guitar. This gives the tune a Celtic vein – however, the syncopated riffs take hold in the verse lead via an almost Americanised vocal delivery from Grant Agnew.
But they really hit their stride during their huge harmonised chorus, managing to delivers a stomp and swagger verging on lad rock without adhering to formulaic cliché as their odd middle-8 testifies, with its overzealous exploitation of flange freak out, the aforementioned recurring lead-guitar flourish returns to great effect in the rock-laden chorus and big finish.
It’s a bit hard to get to a handle on the ‘Sea of People’ as it constantly chops and changes form but it’s no less attention grabbing as a result, the vitality of the track is also helped no end by the experience of Cosmic Rough Riders Stevie Fleming on mastering duties helping restore some balance.
