This is an eccentric but enjoyable album, not normally BM’s cuppa but hard not to like.
It’s mainly acoustic and slide guitar ballads, courtesy of Brinks and Freshard, they come across like a slightly less violent musical version of Bonnie and Clyde, pitching up in bars and entertaining punters. Both French, so perhaps more like Serge’s ‘Bonnie et Clyde’…
The charming/irritating choo choo whistle of ‘Missed You On The Train’, the bonkers intro track ‘If You Have The Time’ which mentions god knows how many dance styles including “putting your hands up for Detroit” in an acoustic guitar track – they certainly have their own take on things.
By turns comic and sensitive, this is pretty chilled out, going at an ambling pace and the male/female harmonies are tender and gorgeous. The most animated track ‘I’m Down’ is about booze… and ‘Put That In Your Pipe’ is quite philosophical really, a kind of existential ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ – nice.
