This is North Lanarkshire’s Mayah Herlihy’s fourth single, and it further cements her reputation as an established act, at the age of 15! Quite some achievement but this is a really great song.
There is acoustic guitar, fiddle and Mayah’s incredible voice, somewhere between Dolly Parton and KD Lang – BM is not always big on country music but this is a fresh take on the genre, and of course like all good country songs it is about family, roots, and stays just on the right side of mawkish as the vocals tell of memories, recalling the beach near Peterhead and other childhood images.
BM has said this before – Mayah could be a huge star if the right combination of ducks aligned, but for now this is just a very good wee country song, with its heart in the right place, and a Scottish tinge, and really trying to emulate anyone… an act who could tear it up live in Scotland and further afield…
