This new Martha Ffion track (the prelude to a new album at the end of the month) might start fairly politely with some piano scales but it soon transpires that this is a riff-laden belter.
It starts with some kind words for an old friend/lover but when the electric guitar and drums kick in the tranquility is shattered, although it turns out the sentiments are still warm in this tribute to shared experiences.
“We’ve been through the wringer together” – supportive and complementary (“Your band were outta sight”) and yet regretful that things are moving on, this is a song of a lived life, with a combination of Drive-By Truckers-esque welly and something more delicate around the edges.
Highly recommended!
