We’re all familiar with Mark Radcliffe, aren’t we?
The acclaimed DJ from Radio 1/2/6 Music and TV presenter and presenter of music shows on BBC & Channel 4.
The first thing that strikes you about Mark Radcliffe is that he is genuinely hilarious.
Telling anecdotes of his times on Radio, celebrity encounters and his and David Boardman’s friends asking where tonight’s gig was.
“The piping centre?
I didn’t know you two were into plumbing”.
Here’s a niche reference.
Some of you may remember Mark & Lard doing comedy versions of songs on their late night Radio 1 show. And then that growing into the Shirehorses band.
That was always played for laughs.
This latest music project isn’t so much.
He’s a genuinely funny guy so the humour comes through in the lyrics.
The pair sing songs of their shared hometown of Knutsford. Of the lost parts of Manchester that are now occupied by the Etihad Stadium. And of the type of people who park their Range Rovers wherever they like.
It’s poignant, it’s charming, and in places very funny.
