What fortuitous timing that Londonʼs Mahavira choose now to release their new E.P. ʻHalf Lightʼ. As the world of fashion once again sneaks a coy glance over itʼs shoulder for inspiration from the past so we see a resurgence of all things grunge on our high streets.
From Doc Martins to itchy seas of plaid and boys with long hair to girls with shaved hair.
About time too, I never could be arsed showering in the morning. To say that Mahavira are indebted to their grunge forefathers would be a gross understatement. The sleeve could just as easily have Soundgarden, Alice in Chains or Faith No More written on it. They certainly make a good fist of emulating their idols too but just as todayʼs grunge kids buy their gear shiny and new in Topshop so Mahavira seem to not only have missed the boat
but also the point. Safe, dull, predictable, and old hat. Less ʻGeneration Xʼ, more ʻGeneration zzzzzzzzʼ.
