Another great single from Kleopatra, a Glasgow-based act beginning to make some serious waves in this wee country and beyond. ‘Ukiyo’ is a mid-paced banger which recalls triphop and also wider influences like St Vincent and Janelle Monae. The instrumentation is complex and the backing percussion chitters away, while the lead and multi-tracked vocals are slinky but determined.

The main tune is catchy but quite dark and the production has some serious skill behind it. 2020 could be quite a year for this artist, and having missed her recent live dates she is definitely on BM’s “gotta see” list.
