Unless you’re tracking the career of Eliza Doolittle with an extremely powerful microscope this second single is going to sound somewhat similar to her first effort, the cringe-worthingly horribly titled ‘Skinny Genes’ (THAT’S A PUN ON SKINNY JEANS? DID YOU GET THAT?). The elements are largely the same – chorus augmented by a sample (in this case a very good one), lyrics that obliquely reference something that was maybe at one time an actual social situation.
‘Pack Up’ details some sort of scenario involving back-stabbing and bitching with all the eloquence of someone who has been asked a question they don’t understand but can’t afford not to make some attempt at an answer. Still, if you can relax enough not to let little matters like logic stop you, this is a good pop song which will burrow its way into your brain and stay there for about half a day. Which is fine.
