With previous hits ‘Long Time Coming’ and ‘Valentine’, Delays found themselves on the periphery of mainstream success. Their blend of anthemic, rousing choruses with an edgy and progressive sound found them many admirers, and new single ‘Hooray’ is the first release from third album ‘Everything’s the Rush’. However, this ode to frontman Greg Gilbert’s OCD issues seems slightly contrived and deliberate. It is breezy, pleasant radio 2 rock, and it is by no means a poor effort, but it just lacks a certain mark of quality that steers Delays best work. There is a karaoke-singalong element to the chorus that begins to grate, and it feels likes the bands best bits are only offered cameo’s here. Despite this, it is still worth a listen for Gilbert’s operatic vocal.
