Current Affairs have been playing live and releasing tracks in Glasgow over the past few years and this Bandcamp release is a compilation of sorts, gathering work from the last couple of years.
And very impressive it is too!
There are, among the nine tracks here, some huge songs, rampant bangers, ‘Breeding Feeling’ being one – the instruments ring out and the vocals recall (yes ok, so a lot of Glasgow indie is doing this)… The Slits, X Ray Spex and US bands like Bikini Kill. Nothing wrong with that at all though, and the influence of these bands does colour this release, but they make it their own.
‘Cheap Cuts’ is another highlight, with upward tunings sounding more like early New Order and also The Shop Assistants…
There is also some superb guitar, bass and drums on this release, in fact it couldn’t be better, and BM cannot recommend it more – pure spiky punk exactly when we all need it.
