Despite having found favour with Vic Galloway and Phil Jupitus, DESPITE the glittering quotes from NME, The Skinny and Kerrang, despite sounding like the drums were recorded in a very small biscuit tin, and and DESPITE having, for pity’s sake, a former member of Roots Manuva in their ranks, CGIV has something. It’s a touch of the hey nonny-nonnys, with a hint of modern skinny-tied angularity, as the London band on the Edinburgh label make a decidedly prog, rock tune in ‘Control Yourself’ – all over the place, the only thing holding it in place is someone sticking knives into a Hammond organ as their satin cape swishes in the background. By contrast, supposed A-side ‘Wasted’ is a plodder that sounds exactly like all the hype was leading up to.
