More Scots accents (hurrah) as the, er, three-piece reference Mogwai, Yo La Tengo… and Pat Nevin. All promising before we’ve even started, and their stop start tunes and boy(friend)/girl(friend) vocals tick all the right boxes here. Somewhere between Foxface and a folk Sonic Youth, ‘Greatest Highs’ is a rambling work which explodes into a top -notch alt.rock chorus. ‘Portrait of My Grandfather’ is a glorious mess – all stop-start, with frantic guitar and acoustic interludes – very Glasgow… Textured w/drums. ‘Sit On Your Hands’ is similarly spasmodic with a noisy / quiet structure as they sing “I’ll never applaud for you”. For this pair we’d happily lead off a Mexican wave.
