Sometimes you get what’s called a ‘great singles band’. Usually they’re marked out by a series of great three-minute pop tunes, followed by disappointment on that difficult first album. This Edinburgh-based four-piece are, however, a great EP band. Three releases, with ten tunes in total, have left them a lot to live up to. Happily, they have plenty of ideas left in them, delivering 11 more US college-rock inspired tracks. They have developed over the course with a poppier sound than on their early releases, the reworked singles like ‘Year of the Car’ having a glossier sheen. But with searing guitars, askew choruses and hooks aplenty, it looks like Book Group have plenty left to offer yet.
