From the first track, ‘Blackhole Gravity’, A Silent Escape explode with an array of energetic and fast-paced riff that above are else, are fun. As metallic punk-rock goes, the opening bars are somewhat deceptive, but are soon clarified with the introduction of Nilsson and Stenbor’s vocals that embed their music firmly into the genre.
The highlight of their self-titled album is undoubtedly ‘Final Chapter’: “I don’t know if I am right or wrong” the infectious chorus. The track pushes itself along in effortless motion, fluid and continuous in an intense burst of controlled chaos.
At times however, the vocals can verge on being too intense. The over use of forceful passion that creates the interesting combination of tones become lost entirely, specifically in ‘God’s A Liar’.
The is something sincere in the likes of ‘My Habit’ that work in the bands favour, which might just win over the most unlikeliest of fans. It’s unlikely that chart followers will find something to relate to in the band, but they should be written off on first appearances. You’ll be air-drumming and head-banging along after only a few listens, the novelty charm of the Swedish band adding something new to the British music scene.
