Next week the UK premiere of an Andy Warhol-themed multimedia extravaganza featuring Lou Reed, Dennis Hopper, Edie Sedgwick and Nico, is taking place at Dunfermline Carnegie Hall.
Run by our Tigerfest compadres at the Carnegie, this is not the only reason for us giving it a fulsome plug and recommendation. Much more than a UK premiere, it’s the first performance in Europe, having previously played in North America where Lou Reed has taken in the show. Following the trip to Fife it heads straight for the continent, bypassing Glasgow, London and all other usual music and arts centres.
Performance? Yes, there is a live show to accompany the projections of the cult figures filmed by Warhol in the 60s. Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips were commissioned by the Andy Warhol Museum to create soundtracks to 13 of Warhol’s famous Screen Tests. The duo will perform them live as the four-minute films are projected behind them.
Dean and Britta, for the uninitiated, first joined forces in cult act Luna, following Wareham’s time as leader of Galaxie 500. Plus, they soundtracked Noah Baumbach’s enormously popular US movie movie, The Squid and the Whale.
Tickets are priced £18 (£13 concessions) and can be purchased at www.attfife.org.uk
