Another well-overdue Betty review, I bet you all wondered where was that crucial review of the new You Slut recording, released back in April, and were thinking about buying it on my say so.
Well, Betty’s got news for you, only just found out myself:
– nobody in this demographic pays for music anymore, do they?
So just go to your bloody soundcloud/noisefuck/whatever and listen to it, ok? Make your own minds up, you may be intelligent people after all?
But Betty will comment on this anyway, since they bothered to send it me, see I’ve come over all Northern English, the reversing of the subject and object, grammatical freaks notes only.
God knows why I was sent this one, “You Slut”? You are taking a liberty (another non-Scotch phrase, more Eastenders than Corrie), Betty’s reputation obviously precedes at several different levels (depends if I’m wearing heels and how tall the customer, sorry, gentleman, is)…
This release follows the 2007 mini album Critical Meat, the long interval perhaps indicating that they are all quite busy with other projects (Amusement Parks on Fire being only one).
You Slut are math rock practitioners, and ‘Medium Bastard’ is a high tempo instrumental release, technically very tight, some prog moments among the stuttering guitars, louping keyboards and melodic hooks, a bit like Mogwai on some extra strong lattes. There are some original and rare moments on this record, although how to promote the music further might remain a problem.
