Edinburgh’s Wrest have been building their reputation through some singles and EPs, along with well-reviewed live shows (including the recent Belhaven Sessions) in Dunbar .
This new single was released in late August and has the same trademark melodic guitars and emotive vocals that made their last few releases so memorable.
The drums and bass kick in after the first few moments and the mood is sympathetic, referencing some previous bad shit. “Try living again”; “Take your medicine” – it’s not a positive vibe but the overall direction is hopeful, and the melodies are playful if rather downbeat – it’s superb piece of Scottish melancholy indie which recalls such giants as Idlewild and even Snow Patrol at their best, and that’s surely a complement…
BM hopes Wrest will go on to bigger and better things – there is definitely something quite unique there.
