A few piano chords so gentle you would think it were Paul McCartney playing, rather than some new band.
Then, the guitars kick in and the adrenalin gets going. This is obviously a sound that has been well honed on the live stage. They’ve actually taken the time to think about what’s working and what isn’t.
This means that the melodies are hardened, the chords full and fat and the drummer knows when to be propulsive and when to brush things along nicely. All the songs gel beautifully with their discmates, but each has its’ own little sonic crystal of individuality.
It starts off with ‘Bruised Not Broken’ and finds the band in full-on vengeance seeking hate-missile mode and ends an all-too-brief half hour later with ‘Since You Were Gone’, and in-between times, it manages to fit in more emotion and talent than some bands manage in twice that time.
