Following hot on the heels of Euan Davidson’s album review, comes ‘Roll Up Your Sleeves’, the second single from We Were Promised Jetpacks debut album ‘These Four Walls’, and if ever a song summed up what sets these ITM? favourites apart, it’s this glorious, soaring record.
An engaging, incessant guitar provides the drive, and Adam Thompson’s vocal does the rest; at times endearing, gentle and reflective, he has the ability to inject a sense of majesty and spine-tingling pleasure, as he does to great effect here.
The musicianship is supreme, and although Thompson’s edgy off-Scots twang can be difficult to acquire initially, allowing it to seep into though reaps reward in what is a beautiful, multi-layered track.
‘Roll up your sleeves, we’re heading for Winter I know’, he whispers, and if there’s any justice, WWPJ will have nudged out of their niche market by then and onto your radio.
